DGS Involved With High-Profile PBS Web Site

August 21, 1996, Los Angeles, CA: Desktop Graphic Services founder works on Kids TV internet site with high-tech shop, Digital Evolution; PBS is client.

Hired on as an freelance web programmer, DGS founder Eric Oxenberg worked with multimedia shop Digital Evolution to produce this fun and leading-edge web site. The PBS site lets kids have fun and at the same time, learn about morals and ethics in a family-friendly setting. Both Shockwave® animation and Java programming technologies were used for interactive games. Music and sound effects were also added.

The PBS site is devoted to “Adventures from the Book of Virtues”, an upcoming television series based on William Bennett’s well-recieved book, The Book Of Virtues, and takes viewers into the world of the show’s animated characters. Show dates are linked to synopses of each 1/2 hour episode, and pages are liberally illustrated with the six star characters.

Eric Oxenberg worked as HTML programmer/page designer with artists and production managers of Digital Evolution and Porchlight Productions, programming web pages, creating supporting file structures, writing additional copy and manipulating images for inclusion into the site. Much of the actual coding, as well as responsibility for bug testing and proofing of pages, was his also.

Software used to build the site included Front Page, BBEdit, MS Word, Photoshop and Debabelizer.

The “Virtues” site is currently running on PBS servers. The television series aired in the first week of September, 1996 with additional episodes to air several months later.

The final word? The client, Porchlight Productions, and by extension PBS, was very happy, and Digital Evolution has a new prestigeous web site to add to their client list. DGS is very happy to have helped smooth the way for a successful web development effort.
